A game prototype that uses a functional near-infrared imaging (fNIR) device, Lazybrains bridged the XNA engine with the fNIR device to use the player's concentration levels as an additional input. In the whimsical candy punk world of Lazybrains, players had to control and manage their concentration to perform tasks such as moving objects and levitating.
The game was used to further test the experimental fNIR device. Later, similar technology, such as EEG, became more mainstream, via The Star Wars Force Trainer and other games produced with The Neurosky Mindwave.
Lazybrains was a joint effort between the Drexel RePlay Lab, Drexel's center of game research, and Drexel's School of Biomedical Engineering, Science & Health Systems.
